Litter Information
Cattail Ridge kennels sells all of its puppies with written and signed contracts, guaranteeing them to be free from the following
health defects:
~ Cataracts ~
~Epilepsy~
~Hip Dysplasia~
~Elbow Dysplasia~

Please keep in mind that a guarantee from the following health defects doesn’t mean that they aren’t possible.  It just means that
we have taken every precaution to try and prevent these issues and would compensate you with the options listed above if they
do come up. If one of these health problems does show up we will gladly give you a replacement puppy from a breeding of your
choice at the earliest possible time.
Both performance/companion and show puppies are physically and mentally sound. The differences being based on the dogs
comparisom to the breed standard. Only puppies determined to contribute to the betterment of the breed are sold are show quality.
All puppies sold as pets must be spayed or neutered at sexual maternity and will be registered as "Non-Breeding" which refers to
the breeding usage. We will not under any circumstances place a puppy in a "breeding home." The only way a puppy is allowed to
stay intact is if it is being place into a show home. When we place a puppy in a show home we do expect that it is going to be
shown.
All of our puppies have their eyes checked by a certified ophthamologist before leaving for their new home, are given the
necessary health preventatives for their age and have begun crate training and leash breaking. They also will be introduced to
baths, getting their nails clipped, and being blown dry. From the day that the puppies are born they will begin socialization with
both animals and human interaction. We also encourage any prospective puppy buyers to come visit them at anytime. We are also
blessed by being able to take the puppies to Ashley's work when they are old enough. Ashley work at a grooming shop at the
west end of Excelsior. While at the grooming shop the puppies are exposed to an abundance of different noises, people, and dogs.

Another concept we believe in is not having more than one litter at a time. Having a litter of puppies is a lot of work and we feel
that each individual puppies will not get enough hands on time or adequate socialization if there are multiple litters.
Reservations:
When a reservation for a puppy is placed, a non-refundable $200.00 deposit is required, which will be deducted from the total
purchase price of the puppy. No puppies will be held without a deposit.

We do ask that if you are further interested in one of our puppies to fill our puppy questionnaire. You can access our
questionnaire here.
Located about an hour and twenty minutes west of the Twin Cities, Cattail Ridge is a small kennel that breeds occasionally. On
average  we will have only 1-2 litters a year. However, some years we don't have any litters at all. Before any dog is bred they
have to go through a series of health tests/checks to ensure to the best of our ability that only the finest dogs will carry on their
bloodline. Dogs must be AKC/ASCA registered. They must obtain a fair, good, or excellant rating from the Orthopedic
Foundation for Animals for their hips. All of these ratings are considered normal. Their elbows must be x-rayed and receive a
rating of "normal" as well.  Eyes must be cleared by a certified opthalmologist by getting a CERF exam. In addition to all of this,
they have to have proven themselves in either the conformation or the performance rings. Here at Cattail Ridge we strive to have
dogs that are titled in multiple venues.
All new owners are strongly encouraged to sign their puppy up for puppy classes to continue proper socialization after they leave
for their new homes. Just because you are now the caretaker for your puppy doesn't mean that we aren't here to continue to answer
any questions that you may have or offer you support for your dog at any time.

Cattail Ridge will not leave a tail on a puppy undocked. The reasons listed below are reasons why we won't do this.

First, you have to have to dock the tails when the puppies are a day at the most a couple days old. At that point in time it is
impossible to tell whether or not a puppy is going to be a show puppy or not. It is a fault for an aussie to have a tail that is longer
than four inches in the show ring. While we appreciate and need our pet homes, it is a waste of potential to place a show puppy in a
pet home where it will not be shown.

Second, and probably the most important reason,  it is impossible to tell what temperaments are going to be at a couple days old. It
may totally clash with what you are looking for. At that point I wouldn't feel comfortable placing that puppy in your home if I knew
you and/or the puppy was going to be unhappy. Then I would have this pup with a tail that I would have to find a home for when
that isn't what an aussie is known for.

Thirdly, aussies can be born with anything from no tail, to half a tail, to a full tail. So there is a chance that your puppy would have a
half tail - which would look funny. Sometimes the tails can have kinks in them. So that is a possibility as well.

The last reason why I wouldn't ever sell a puppy with a tail is because a docked tail on an aussie  is a major breed trait. This is what
distinguishes them from other breeds. To me, it is what makes an aussie an aussie.
